Alternative Nepal Treks & Expedition P. Ltd. was founded in 2008 by a small group of like-minded outdoor professionals. This team felt that although the outdoor adventures industry in Nepal had come a long way since the days of the hippie trail in the 1970s, much could still be done to improve the standard and services of this vital sector of Nepal’s tourism industry. Alternative Nepal was founded with the aim of ‘raising the bar’ for outdoor adventure in Nepal. Our fundamental principles are below.
We will strive to maintain a 100% safety record. We will do this by using only the safest, internationally-tested equipment, and employing only the most experienced, internationally-certified staff.
We will strive to provide a five-star service to our clients. We will do this by investing in our staff, to ensure that they are safe, healthy and happy. In turn we expect our staff to provide every single Alternative Nepal client with an experience that they will treasure forever.
We will strive to offer something different. We will do this by investing time in exploring new routes, rivers and trails, so that our clients can experience a Nepal that none of our competitors can offer.
We will strive to contribute to a healthier, happier and more prosperous Nepal. We will do this by ensuring that our company and its clients is not harming the environment, economy or society; and by investing in development projects in Nepal’s poorest regions.

Our team At Alternative Nepal we want to raise the bar for adventure tourism in Nepal. Our team is made up of some of Nepal’s most experienced outdoor leaders, all with a passion to make…
1.Pasang Sherpa : Managing Director
Pasang hails from a small mountain village in the Kanchenjunga region. He began training as a mountaineer at the tender age of 6 with the daily hike to school. During childhood he moved to a district called Sankhuwasabha, exchanging the shadow of Kanchenjunga for that of Mt. Makalu. Pasang has been leading trekking and mountaineering trips in Nepal since 1996. The ‘high point’ (forgive the pun) of his career came in 2005 when he successfully summitted Mount Everest 8,848m. He repeated the feat in 2008 and 2012 conquering Mount Everest for the third time. Pasang added Makalu and Lhotse to the growing number of peaks under his belt in 2009 and 2010. When Pasang is not leading trips high in the Himalaya, he can be found teaching at the local climbing wall, passing on his skills and experience to others. Pasang has also climbed extensively in the Austrian Alps.
2.Manish Rai : Director
Manish comes from a small village in a remote region called Sankhuwasabha in the north east of Nepal. He began his rafting career in 1995 and his river-baptism occurred during a Sun Kosi trip in 1998 when a flash-flood flipped his gear raft and washed him down the river for seventy-odd kilometers before he managed to drag himself to shore. He saved the beer though. Needless to say, Manish is a lot older and wiser these days but still hasn’t lost his passion for adventure. He has spent the last Seventeen years as a international trip leader, leading river trips in Turkey, Laos, Japan, Thailand and Europe as well as all over Nepal. When he’s not rafting, Manish enjoys trekking in the Himalaya and discovering new trails – both on foot and on his mountain bike.
3.Sandesh Sherpa: Mountain Guide
Sandesh is a young chap, smart and strongest in our team. He was born in Shankuwashaba district and migrated to Kathmandu after completing his school leaving the household works on a pursuit of bright future. Sandesh has led the treks to Manaslu circuit, Tashi lepcha pass, Sherpeni col (highest pass of the world) and many others. He is equally interested in mountain biking and rock climbing.
